Panchakarma

The miracle of the human body is that it has a natural healing intelligence which is capable of constantly rejuvenating itself. However when dosbic
imbalance and weakened digestive capacity allow toxic impurities to form his natural capacity of the body gets blocked to remedy his situation.
Ayurveda offers the gift of PANCHAKARMA the science of rejuvenation. In this process, the body is purified as the degenerating influence of these foreign
substances, thus freeing it to naturally exercise its inherent rejuvenative abilities. It recognizes that human life cannot be separated from cosmic life.
The word Panchakarma means five actions and refers to five procedures intended to intensively cleanse and restore balance of body - mind and
emotions. Panchakarma is safe and non-toxic and can be used as prevention and to increase general well-being.
The name Panchakarma comes from two Sanskrit words panch means "Five" and karma meaning "Actions". The name incorporates the core of
the treatment the five primary actions or procedures which Ayurveda use to purify the body of everything foreign to it. Panchakarma therapy however is more than just these five purificatory and rejuvenative procedures. It is a three stages process in which the five core treatments serve as the focal points. The first phase called PURVAKARMA comprises essential preliminary procedures whose purpose is to prepare the body to unload stored toxins. The purpose of the main or second stage. The last stage called PURIFICATION processes.
Panchakarma is a unique natural - holistic - health giving series of therapeutic treatments that cleanse the body"s deep tissue of toxins open the
subtle channels bring life enhancing energy thereby increasing vitality inner peace. Basti therapy is perhaps the most powerful of the main procedures
at Panchakarma. Vamana - Nasya and Virechana together contribute fifty percent of the benefits of Panchakarma; basti by itself provides the other fifty percent.
Basti is the introduction of medicated liquids into the colon through the rectum. While it directly effects the colon. It is not a localized or symptomatic treatment. The colon is seldom if ever addressed for its own sake. Rather it is utilized because consequently basti has a wide ranging influence in the body. The word basti is frequently translated into English as Enema. However when basti is used in conjunction with PANCHAKARMA pre-procedures it cleans fat more than just the colon. It helps to purify toxins from all over the body.
Four types of external bastis are classified -
(1) Netra Basti or Netra tarpana applied medicated ghee to the eyes.
(2) Katti Basti means retained on the lower back.
(3) Uro Basti means retained on the chest and heart
(4) Shiro Basti is administered on the head through the ure of a specialized leather container resembling a hat.
